Top 3 Potential Trade Targets for the Portland Trail Blazers
Bam Adebayo
In the ongoing trade rumors involving Damian Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers might surprise everyone by pursuing a trade with the Miami Heat to acquire Bam Adebayo. However, this move would not involve exchanging Adebayo for Lillard; instead, the Blazers would aim to team up Adebayo with Lillard in Portland.
Reports suggest that Portland has been exploring options to trade their No. 3 draft pick. While the Blazers highly value their selection in talks with other teams, they appear willing to part with it only if they can acquire one of their preferred targets to complement Lillard. One such target is Bam Adebayo, a defensive centerpiece known for his skills with the Miami Heat.
The proposed package from Portland would likely include Anfernee Simons, Shaedon Sharpe, and this year's No. 3 overall pick, which presents a compelling offer. However, the Heat seem reluctant to trade Adebayo, given his significant contributions to Miami's recent success, including two Finals appearances in the last four years.
Karl-Anthony Towns
Karl-Anthony Towns was once highly sought after as an athletic scoring center with immense potential. With a scarcity of dominant big men in the NBA, he seemed destined to become a generational star at his position. However, after eight seasons, Towns has shifted to playing power forward, altered his shot selection to favor perimeter shots, suffered from injuries, and failed to live up to the expectations set by his four All-Star appearances. While he still possesses offensive prowess, his lack of defense, inspiration, and team success make him an unfavorable choice for Portland, who requires all of those qualities and more. Moreover, Towns' lucrative max contract further complicates any potential deal for the Blazers.
Paul George
Rumors have circulated that the Portland Trail Blazers might consider trading for Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George using their third overall pick. However, the financial aspect of such a swap, given George's substantial $45 million salary for the upcoming season, presents challenges. Additionally, George holds a player option for the following year, making this trade speculative at best for Portland.
At 32 years old, George had a productive season, averaging 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists over 56 games. However, his injury history raises concerns, and the Clippers' underwhelming performance despite his contributions is another factor to consider. While George remains a talented player who fits well with the right team, he is no longer the defensive force he once was during his prime years as a perennial All-Star.
This trade proposal might have been enticing four years ago, but at this stage, it appears desperate for the Blazers. Even if they were to get two good years out of George, it would be considered a success. Furthermore, there are reports that the next Paul George-like talent is available at the third position in the upcoming draft, offering a more cost-effective option for Portland.
